The Effect of Breast Treatment Towards Mother's Breast Milk Volume on Post Partum in Midwifery Practice at Primary Health Care of Andalas, Padang West Sumatera Province Indonesia

Background: Breast milk production can be stimulated with breast treatment. Breast treatment could stimulate prolactin and oxytocin glands and hormones for increasing the production of breast milk. The aim of the study was determine the effect of breast treatment towards mother’s breast milk volume on post partum in midwifery practice at Primary Health Care of Andalas, Padang West Sumatera Province Indonesia. Methods: The study was conducted using an experimental study with post test and control only group design, in the midwifery practice at Primary Health Care of Andalas, Padang West Sumatera Province Indonesia from September 2018-September 2019. The populations in this study were all pregnant women with gestational aged 30-34 weeks until the pregnant women undergo childbirth and post partum, sample size 24 respondents in intervention and control group. Sampling technique was done with simple random sampling. Hypothesis test used mann-whitney test. A two-tailed P-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The results of the study known the average breast milk volume was higher in the intervention group than in the control group were 56.91 ± 10.90 ml and 14.16 ± 3.19 ml. There was an effect of breast treatment towards mother’s breast milk volume on post partum (p<0.05). Conclusion: This analysis confirmed an effect of breast treatment towards mother’s breast milk volume on post partum.

BACKGROUND: Exclusive breastfeeding is the cornerstone of a child’s survival and health because it provides essential and irreplaceable nutrients for their growth and development. The coverage rate for exclusive breastfeeding for infants 0–6 months in West Java in 2017 was 55.4%, below the national figure of 61.33%. AIM: The purpose of this article is to identify the failure factors for exclusive breastfeeding. METHODS: The study began with a quasi-experimental period with a pre- and post-test group design approach through a health education process about exclusive breastfeeding in the third trimester of pregnancy, followed by a prospective study on breastfeeding practice in infants in the first 6 months of life. Background: Breastfeeding has many health and developmental advantages for infant and mothers. Breastfeeding remains the simplest, healthiest and least expensive feeding method that fulfils the infant’s needs.Methods: 112 mothers having infants of age group less than 1 year were included in the study. Self-administered questionnaire was used to collect information on breastfeeding practices in the initial six months of birth of the child. Study population were postnatal mothers in KIMS Hubli, Hospital IPD and OPD.Results: 112 lactating mothers were included in the study. Majority of subjects 86 (76.7%) were in the age group 21-30 years. About 43 (38.4%) lactating mother initiated breast feeding practices within 1 hour after the delivery. 63.4% of the infants received exclusive breast feeding.
