Job summary

We are offering an opportunity for a keen pharmacy technician who may be either already working in a medicines information service, or want to develop their skills and specialise in this area to become part of our friendly team.

We can support the right person through the Medicines Information and Advice Training Programme (MIATP) for pharmacy technicians. Enrolment on MIATP also includes attendance on the National Medicines Information Training Course. The post is advertised as a progression post moving from band 5 to 6 on completion of the MIATP training.

The service is based at York but provides a Trust-wide medicines information resource to health care professionals working in the acute and community hospitals, and a discharge helpline to colleagues in primary care.

The successful candidate will work with the Medicines Information Pharmacist in the day-to-day management, co-ordination and provision of the service.

You will have responsibility for maintaining the register of patient group directions (PGDs) which have been adopted by the Trust and will work closely with the Lead Nurse for Medicines Management.

We will support the successful candidate in gainingaccuracy checking pharmacy technician (ACPT) accreditation if this is something you do not already hold.

If you are passionate about ensuring colleagues have access to high quality medicines information to help patients receive excellent care, then this is the job for you.

Main duties of the job

As this is a progression post we welcome interest from a pharmacy technician with two years post qualification. Previous experience of working in medicines information is not essential as formal training will be provided in this area, so don't let this deter you.

You must possess excellent, adaptive communication and organisational skills to enable you to plan work and tailor written and verbal responses to a level which will be understood by users of the service.

You should have a strong clinical interest and an interest in training colleagues in enquiry answering. You will be involved in developing and maintaining SOPs to support the service and contribute to activities which are designed to assess and maintain the standards of the service.

The post includes participation in working the weekend (currently 1 in 8) and Bank Holiday (1 per year) rotas.
