A new top team?
There were some significant stunners in Week 3 of the NFL season, including the final game on Monday night. Sunday saw more than a few shocking finals, too, which created a shakeup in the latest power rankings.
As the season enters Week 4, a new team sits at No. 1.
32. Las Vegas Raiders (1-2, lost to Carolina Panthers)
Well, Mark Davis can't be happy with Antonio Pierce or anyone else on the Raiders. It was an embarrassing loss at home. Horrifying after the way the Panthers played in the first two weeks of the season.
31. Tennessee Titans (0-3, lost to Green Bay Packers)
How long before the Titans realize Will Levis is a liability? Maybe they can insert Malik Willis. Wait—he is now on the Packers, who came into Tennessee and romped the Titans.
30. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3, lost to Buffalo Bills)
There are multiple troubles in Jacksonville. Are the Khans going to stick with Doug Pederson or is another move on the table.
29. Miami Dolphins (1-2, lost to Seattle Seahawks)
Skylar Thompson is a problem at quarterback, Mike McDaniel's brilliance is going to be challenged. The Dolphins keep losing to teams that are considered playoff contenders, and injuries are not helping matters.
28. Carolina Panthers (1-2, defeated Las Vegas Raiders)
Who knew that Andy Dalton would solve all of Carolina's problems?
27. Cincinnati Bengals (0-3, lost to Washington Commanders)
What is going on in Cincinnati? (Not much.)
26. New York Giants (1-2, defeated Cleveland Browns)
The heat is off Brian Daboll ... for a week. Big Blue went into Cleveland and upended the Browns. Daniel Jones was efficient. Malik Nabers was a force. The Giants' defense was fabulous.
25. New England Patriots (1-2, lost to New York Jets)
The defense was outmatched against Aaron Rodgers. The offense is inept, particularly the line, which lets Jacoby Brissett take a weekly beating. Jerod Mayo appears headed for a long first season.
24. Dallas Cowboys (1-2, lost to Baltimore Ravens)
It is not like Dallas was playing for anything against the Ravens. They only wanted to avoid two straight losses at home, bad losses. So, they came out and did absolutely nothing for three quarters before launching a fierce comeback that came up short. Mike McCarthy might not want to sit down.
23. Denver Broncos (1-2, defeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
Sean Payton must have some kind of magic when it comes to NFC South teams. The former Saints coach led Bo Nix and the Broncos into Tampa and they downed the previously unbeaten Bucs. Give the defense credit as it shut down Baker Mayfield the Bucs' offense.
22. Arizona Cardinals (1-2, lost to Detroit Lions)
The Cardinals played the Lions tight but in the end came up short. The team is on the improve and should no longer be looked at as a pushover.
21. Indianapolis Colts (1-2, downed the Chicago Bears)
The Colts get into the win column by shutting down the Chicago Bears. Indianapolis threw the ball 20 times and rushed 33 for 130 yards. That's a great balance for Anthony Richardson to succeed.
20. Washington Commanders (2-1, defeated Cincinnati Bengals)
The Commanders have a new commander in Jayden Daniels, who put on a spectacular performance on the national stage Monday night. Dan Quinn has the defense clicking, too, so this is undoubtedly a team to watch in the NFC.
19. Los Angeles Rams (1-2, defeated San Francisco 49ers)
The Rams were looking at an 0-3 start but pulled it together late in the fourth quarter to score 13 points and stun the 49ers. This team is injury-riddled and still got it done.
18. Chicago Bears (1-2, lost to Indianapolis Colts)
The Bears have an identity crisis. The offense was supposed to be better in 2024. Yes, Caleb Williams threw for 363 yards, more than double the production of Anthony Richardson. Don't see having the first overall pick out of USC making 52 pass attempts as a recipe for success this season.
17. Cleveland Browns (1-2, lost to New York Giants)
This would be concerning. The Giants appeared lost and headed for a high draft pick after three weeks. Then they go into Cleveland and stifle the Browns. Cleveland needs to be better. Nick Chubb has to get ready soon. Deshaun Watson isn't worth his contract.
16. Los Angeles Chargers (2-1, lost to Pittsburgh Steelers)
The Chargers suffered a tough loss against a tough defense. It didn't help that Justin Herbert aggravated the high ankle sprain and went out of the game. Taylor Heinicke was ineffective as a replacement.
15. Green Bay Packers (2-1, defeated Tennessee Titans)
The Packers went into Tennessee and pummeled Will Levis and the Titans. Malik Willis more than got his revenge against the team that traded him in August. Willis threw for 202 yards and a score and rushed for 73 and a touchdown. It feels like the Titans were the problem, not the third-round pick in 2022.
14. Atlanta Falcons (1-2, lost to Kansas City Chiefs)
Atlanta had its chances to upend the Super Bowl champs. In the end, a couple of questionable play calls kept the Falcons out of the end zone and away from the upset.
13. New York Jets (2-1, defeated New England Patriots)
Aaron Rodgers looked like the vintage Aaron Rodgers. The Jets stifled the Patriots. If Rodgers is sharp, Gang Green could move up the Power Rankings quickly.
12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1, lost to Denver Broncos)
This is one the Bucs need to forget quickly. Did they overlook the Broncos? That can be the only explanation for the dismal effort.
11. Philadelphia Eagles (2-1, defeated New Orleans Saints)
Saquon Barkley said it wasn't redemption for the Monday night gaffe but his two touchdowns were the difference. The Eagles sealed the win with a Reid Blankenship pick. Nick Sirianni continues to make baffling decisions.
10. New Orleans Saints (2-1, lost to Philadelphia Eagles)
The Saints' offense that generated 91 points in the first two games was stuffed by Philly. Derek Carr was reduced to ordinary by the Eagles.
9. Seattle Seahawks (3-0, defeated Miami Dolphins)
The Seahawks took care of business big time against a struggling Dolphins team.
8. San Francisco 49ers (1-2, lost to Los Angeles Rams)
In addition to being banged up big time, the 49ers wasted a career game by Juuan Jennings, who had three touchdown grabs. Blowing a double-digit lead in the last 6:15 is problematic.
7. Baltimore Ravens (1-2, defeated Dallas Cowboys)
Lamar Jackson was great and the Ravens rolled to a big lead before they had to thwart a late Dallas charge. The outcome was never in doubt. One question that exists is Justin Tucker's leg. He missed his lone chance at a field goal and is no longer the sure thing.
6. Houston Texans (2-1, lost to Minnesota Vikings)
The Texans were without Joe Mixon. That can't be the reason they were clobbered by the Vikings. Could be a good wake-up call for a team that's been making headlines.
5. Minnesota Vikings (3-0, defeated Houston Texans)
The Vikings appear to be far better than expected. Sam Darnold is having quite the year, having thrown for four TDs in the win over the Texans. Go figure.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (3-0, defeated Los Angeles Chargers)
Did anyone have the Steelers perfect through three weeks with Russell Wilson sidelined? What does Mike Tomlin do when the veteran is healthy. Benching Justin Fields after a 3-0 start would be problematic,
3. Detroit Lions (2-1, defeated Arizona Cardinals)
The Lions bounced back from the loss in Week 2 with a road win that is better than it looks. Arizona isn't a patsy anymore. The Lions have what it takes to be a deep playoff contender.
2. Kansas City Chiefs (3-0, defeated Atlanta Falcons)
The Chiefs always find a way. They gave Atlanta three first downs on defensive penalties on the last drive and still stiffened to win the game. A win is a win — but the new top team looked more dominant...
1. Buffalo Bills (3-0, defeated Jacksonville Jaguars)
The Bills destroyed the Jaguars, putting on enough of a performance to take the top spot in the latest power rankings. Next up? The team faces the Ravens next in a huge AFC matchup
